The News
Oracle announced new agentic AI innovations for Oracle AI Database that will help customers rapidly build, deploy, and scale secure agentic AI applications that are suitable for full-scale production workloads. Oracle AI Database architects agentic AI and data together across operational databases and analytic lakehouses. It enables AI agents to securely access real-time enterprise data wherever it resides and easily uses business data with LLMs trained on public data to provide business insights. Customers can choose AI models, agentic frameworks, open data formats, and deployment platforms. In addition, customers running Oracle Exadata further benefit from Exadata Powered AI Search, which enables agentic AI at the highest scale with accelerated AI queries for high-volume, multi-step agentic workloads. Analyst Take
By architecting agentic AI capabilities directly into the data layer, Oracle AI Database eliminates the complex and often insecure requirement of building external data-movement pipelines. We see this integrated approach as decreasing the risk of degraded outcomes that often plague systems relying on fragmented data and complex pipelines. At the center of this shift is the Oracle Autonomous AI Vector Database, which merges the simplicity of a dedicated vector store with the comprehensive power of Oracle’s full database ecosystem.
Developers can leverage intuitive APIs and a web-based interface to build vector-powered applications that maintain enterprise-grade security and scalability. Currently available in limited release through free and low-cost developer tiers, the system allows for a seamless, one-click upgrade to the full Oracle Autonomous AI Database, providing native support for graph, spatial, JSON, and relational data without the need for separate, disconnected databases. In other words, it eliminates the proverbial cul-de-sac that impacts users of isolated vector databases that start and end with vectors.
To further empower non-technical users, the Oracle AI Database Private Agent Factory offers a no-code environment for business analysts and domain experts to build and deploy data-driven agents safely. Operating as a containerized solution in public clouds or on-premises, this factory helps ensure data locality by keeping all information within the customer's controlled environment rather than sharing it with third parties. It includes specialized, pre-built agents designed for database knowledge, structured data analysis, and deep research. Unlike traditional methods that depend on external orchestration and multiple database calls, Oracle’s strategy simplifies the workflow by embedding agentic logic directly into the database engine, ensuring consistent performance, security, and resilience across all enterprise workloads. Private Agent Factory places Oracle at the operational control layer in enterprises rather than just the storage layer, by bringing data and AI closer together and reducing the need for data movement and external orchestration.
Supporting these high-performance operations is the Oracle Unified Memory Core, a single-system architecture designed to store and manage context and session information for AI agents, enabling agents to retain memory of past interactions—crucial for agentic multi-step actions. This converged engine is differentiated in its ability to provide low-latency reasoning across diverse data types, including vector, JSON, graph, and columnar data, all within a single framework. By maintaining consistent transactions and security across these varied formats, the Unified Memory Core provides the stable foundation necessary for the complex, real-time demands of modern agentic AI, as agents move from chatbots to taking actions autonomously.
Oracle’s new platform prioritizes flexibility by allowing customers to select their preferred AI models, frameworks, and deployment environments. From our viewpoint, Oracle architected this agentic AI strategy considering the growing data gravity of massive enterprise datasets making the traditional model of moving data to AI models increasingly unsustainable, both in terms of high latency and the ballooning costs of egress fees. By embedding agentic capabilities directly into the data layer, Oracle addresses a critical market shift where businesses are moving away from general-purpose LLMs in favor of sovereign AI that requires strict data residency and real-time access to proprietary records. Furthermore, this move allows Oracle to defend its massive installed base against specialized vector-only database startups by proving that a converged, multi-model engine can deliver better performance without the fragmentation of an isolated vector stack.
According to the HyperFRAME Research Lens, 78% of organizations identify AI as strategically important, yet only 37% currently operate with a structured evaluation and deployment process, underscoring a persistent execution gap between ambition and readiness. Embedding agentic capabilities directly into the database, as Oracle has done, simplifies the topology and provides the data foundation that enables agents to operate safely at scale.
Oracle Reshapes the Competitive Landscape
Oracle minimizes data movement and security risk
We see that the primary rivals to Oracle AI Database include hyperscalers such as Amazon Aurora (AWS), Azure SQL (Microsoft), and Google Cloud SQL as well as specialized vector databases such as Pinecone. While these competitors often require developers to build patchwork solutions that move data across complex pipelines, Oracle gains a competitive edge by architecting agentic AI directly into the database engine to minimize data movement latency and security risk.
Additional competitive pressure comes from data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks, which are also attempting to embed OLTP, vector, governance, and orchestration capabilities into unified data environments with mixed success. Oracle’s AI Designed for Data approach enables Oracle AI Database to process vector, JSON, graph, and relational data within a single engine, providing the real-time performance necessary for autonomous AI agents. Oracle’s approach places greater emphasis on in-database agent deployment and tenancy isolation than most competing platforms, which typically assemble similar capabilities through external orchestration tools, container services, or workflow engines, creating potential security risks.
Oracle collapses infrastructure layers
We also see this move as part of a broader industry shift toward collapsing infrastructure layers into fewer, more tightly integrated execution environments. The HyperFRAME Research Lens indicates that only 14% of organizations currently classify their data architectures as fully modernized for AI workloads, despite widespread investment in hybrid environments. This imbalance is driving vendors to reduce architectural fragmentation by embedding intelligence closer to the data itself. While some providers are moving toward tighter coupling between data, models, and orchestration, Oracle’s differentiation is that it starts from the database outward, while others typically start from the model or platform outward. Oracle anchors this convergence inside the data layer, positioning the database not just as storage, but as an operational substrate for agent reasoning and action.
Oracle implements security at the data layer
Oracle further differentiates itself by moving security from the application layer to the data layer with Deep Data Security, which enforces column-, row-, and cell-level access and protects against prompt injection. To solve the issue of probabilistic hallucinations found in rival LLM integrations, Oracle provides Trusted Answer Search to deliver deterministic, verifiable results from business data. Moreover, while many cloud providers create walled gardens, Oracle promotes openness and flexibility by supporting standards like Apache Iceberg and the MCP across all major clouds and on-premises environments. Overall, Oracle’s massive footprint in the Fortune Global 100 allows it to activate existing private business data for AI innovation more securely and at enterprise-scale than its primary competitors.
Looking Ahead
We believe the new AI capabilities are expected to drive the enduring success of Oracle AI Database by fundamentally solving the security, complexity, costs, and data gravity issues that currently stall agentic AI projects at scale.
Oracle’s new agentic AI innovations empower enterprises to rapidly build and scale production-ready applications by architecting AI and data together across operational databases and analytic lakehouses. By leveraging AI Database Agent Factory, Oracle Unified Memory Core, Autonomous AI Vector Database, and Exadata Powered AI Search, customers can take advantage of sharply favorable scalability and low-latency reasoning across high-volume, multi-step workloads.
These advancements are complemented by advanced security through Oracle Deep Data Security and Private AI Services Containers, which safeguard against modern threats such as prompt injections and prevent exposing sensitive data to third parties. Overall, this suite provides universal deployment flexibility, enabling organizations to innovate across any platform, from on-premises and air-gapped systems to multicloud architectures, while effectively eliminating data lock-in.
